This year-round program offers STAGES to local schools, youth organizations, and community centers that are unable to provide theater arts education. The Black Rep offers a wide variety of affordable classes for budding actors, theater technicians, and more. The Chesterfield Family YMCA provides a range of theater arts programs for young people. COCA offers classes for all ages on early childhood, art, design, dance, theater, voice, and physical conditioning.
Musical theater, theater and backstage give your dramatic child the training, focus and output that they need to succeed. Devine Performing Arts offers professional instruction for all ages in ballet, jazz, tap dance, modern, and company. The Shrewsbury Community Theater is open to young people ages 7 and older. Stages Performing Arts Academy is regionally recognized for its innovative, multidisciplinary program. Both in the studio and in the classroom, the dance curriculum treats dance as a global phenomenon with cultural and individual differences in expressive form.
Dance classes at all levels encourage students to develop their ability to move and think creatively and to recognize movement as an essential element of their own identity. Most dance courses accept no more than 20 students, and our program offers a B. A. in Dance and a minor in Dance.
Students with significant dance training prior to admission to college usually specialize in dance and some other field. Dance students may emphasize ballet or modern dance, but all older and younger students study dance composition. Other courses of study include contact improvisation, jazz, tap dancing, musical theatre, Dunham technique, Spanish dance, Argentine tango, bharata natyam, and West African dance. Courses that emphasize somatic training are also offered such as the Alexander Technique and Authentic Movement. Seminars on the history, theory and ethnology of dance and a wide range of elective subjects complement the study work.
Master classes and guest artist residencies complement the teaching provided by regular teachers who have all danced professionally. Dance Placement Class Enrollment in any higher-level dance course is subject to approval after the placement class - a 2-hour class that takes place during the first year of orientation in August. The University of Washington Dance Collective invites you to dinner - defined as a meal of an intimate nature - where you'll experience small but delicious bites of creatively short dance proposals which combine to create a feast for the virtual senses. The University of Washington Dance Theater is the Department of Performing Arts's main annual dance concert presented at the end of the fall semester at the Edison Theater. Open to all students, dancers are selected by audition where they gain experience and skills working under the direction of invited professional teachers and choreographers both reorganizing masterpieces and creating new premieres. The University of Washington Dance Collective is the resident dance company of the Department of Performing Arts - a unique mix of talented expressive artists from very diverse backgrounds who bring a wide range of movement styles and interpretive acumen under the artistic direction of Cecil Slaughter.
The WUDC can be seen at performances throughout St Louis. The University of Washington Student Dance Show is a concert held every other spring choreographed danced directed and designed entirely by students - an opportunity for student choreographers to showcase their work at a professional-style concert while experiencing autonomy and personal responsibility. Graduates of the dance program have gone on to top graduate schools and careers in professional dance dance education or related fields such as art management or physical therapy. In addition to providing training on a selected topic STAGES IN SCHOOLS programs instill in students a love for the arts and respect for the profession of theater professionals.
Kirven Douthit-Boyd (Boston MA) began his formal dance training at the Boston Academy of Arts in 1999 as a member of Boston Youth Moves under artistic direction from Jeannette Neil & Jim Viera - he has also appeared as a guest artist at ballet & contemporary dance galas in Argentina Mexico & Canada. Access The Arts programs in St Louis region STAGES consist of classes workshops & performance opportunities that allow area youth with physical cognitive or developmental delays to fully participate in musical theater arts. From stage to backstage you'll leave STLCC with skills needed to continue working in theatrical arts - workshops & multi-week residencies are available on topics ranging from technical theater to artistic careers teaching acting dance or musical theater.
